4 Things To Consider When You Paint Your Ceilings

People choose accent walls or use wallpaper to make a room more personalized and lively, but painting ceilings is still something that usually gets overlooked. Guess what? Painting ceilings is also a part of your overall interior paint job and it is increasingly getting thought and consideration! If you’ve hopped onto the bandwagon and are on the way to discuss how that ceiling might look with your interior designers, here are a few things to consider when you paint your ceilings.

Area of your room

While the classic white gives safest option for your space, other colors can also do the trick. If you are looking to paint the ceilings of a large area which already has dark walls, consider painting the ceiling a lighter shade of your wall color to enhance the expanded area and create an illusion of a large airy space. Alternatively, if you wish to make the ceiling look lower than it is, in areas with high ceilings like your foyer, turn towards a darker hue of your wall color.

Shades of blues, greens and purples are also great unconventional wall and ceiling combinations.

Balance your decor

While some people might love a dark on dark or light on light combination, it is very important to consider the decor while choosing wall and ceiling colors. Some consider matching the furniture with the ceiling while others opt for for white walls and furniture, making the ceiling a pop of color. Regardless of your preference and inclinations, keep in mind that the colors of the ceiling and furniture do not clash. Avoid an eyesore by carefully balancing your decor with your ceiling and wall colors.

Painting Murals in your space

If you’re looking to revamp your rooms and you’re willing to go all out, why not try murals? Depending on your taste and willingness to take risks, murals can range from being small and detailed to large and cover your entire ceiling and run down to the edges of the walls. Some even replicate famous paintings on their ceilings, giving a different spin to their room. The options are endless; but, if you feel like you are not ready to commit to busy walls and ceiling then opt out of it.

Psychological impact of your walls

When you start painting the walls and ceiling of a room it is important to consider who the room is for and what purpose it will serve for your house. If it is for a child, you might want to consider a bright hue like orange, as the ceiling or the first thing a child sees every morning, that is known to improve a child’s psychology. Imagine your child waking up to a bright and wonderful ceiling, ready to take on the world. Similarly, if it is for a formal setting perhaps a monochromatic color will be the way to go. In fact, keeping a monochromatic scheme for your room will look classy along with being soothing. If you’re a daring and edgy person, a black ceiling should also be a great choice.

Step out of your comfort zone and experiment with colored ceilings, they’re a fun way to add some zing in your house!
