Five Color Trends for the Living Room in 2017

Just as they do in the fashion industry, trends frequently change in the home design industry. In the past, wallpapering the walls in each room of your home was the trendy thing to do. Now, painting the walls using these color trends for 2017 is what you’ll find in most homes.

Shades of Gray

Gray seems to be one of the hottest colors for 2017 and it is not just for the living room. Many interior designers also use it in the bedroom. Whether it is a light dove gray or darker shades of gray, it is a popular color because its appearance changes with the light. In addition, it is a neutral color that allows for pops of color to enhance the living room by adding rugs, throw pillows, or fabric furniture in bold bright colors or patterns.

The Blues

Whether it is a very light blue or a darker dusky blue, the blue color spectrum is also a popular choice for 2017. Blue is a cool, comforting color that can be used in many ways throughout the home. The lighter blue shades can be neutral, lending walls a bit of color instead of having them painted stark white. Darker blue colors such as dusky blue can be paired with white by painting window frames, baseboards, and crown molding white.

Natural Greens

Staying with earthy colors, green paint shades are also trendy for 2017. Green gives a room a natural, organic appeal no matter what shade is applied. If your living area lacks light, then a pastel or mint green can help lighten the room. Darker greens such as a moss green or even chartreuse can work well in south-facing living areas that get lots of light. Wood-tone window frames and baseboards also pair well with green tones.

Jewelry Tones

Jewel tones include any colors that remind you of gems such as emerald green, sapphire blue, ruby red, or citrine yellow. While some jewel tones may seem too dark for a living area, they can work well in rooms that have an abundance of natural light. Neutral furniture colors such as gray or white can help subdue a darker room or pair well with the lighter jewel tones such as citrine or lime green.

Put in Neutral

Many designers like neutral colors for living rooms in 2017 because they will allow you to add any accessories or colors that you like in the room. Whether taupe, beige, ecru, or white, neutral colors make good background colors that allow the furniture, art, or wall hangings to be the star of the show in the living area. The neutral colors also go with white or wood-tone window frames, baseboards, or crown moldings if you have beautiful wood that you don’t want to cover up.

Many of the color trends for 2017 are colors that can last for several years. While the jewel tones may be quickly dated as trends change, neutral colors, grey, green, and blue are all natural organic shades that would blend well with future decorating trends.
